Marcheno is a mountain community in Valle Trompia of about 4,000 inhabitants, located about 22 km north of Brescia. The town specialises in the manufacture of metal products. Of particular artistic significance is the Sanctuary of Santa Maria Annunciata also known as the Madonnina, built in the first decade of the 17th century and located on the ancient Valeriana road (now Via Madonnina) in front of the oldest that houses, inside baroque stucco work, a beautiful early 16th-century Maestà (Majesty). The municipality of Marcheno is crossed by the Mella River and has been inhabited since ancient times. This is demonstrated by finds discovered in 1975 dating back to the early Iron Age between the 8th and 7th centuries BC. The same settlements were also inhabited in Roman times. There are many paths on the mountains surrounding the town, including a walking itinerary linked to the Resistance in Brescia: the Path of the Partisan Moretti, which starts from the Comprehensive Institute of Marcheno and leads to the picturesque Caregno Plateau.
