Bovezzo is an Italian municipality of about 7,350 inhabitants located on the outskirts of Brescia, at the foot of Monte Spina, on the right-hand side of Valle Garza, at the point where Valle Trompia converges with the road to Valle Sabbia and Giudicarie. As Marcello Zane mentions in his guidebook Valle Trompia Tesori Nascosti (Hidden Treasures in Valle Trompia) this municipality is “a centre that confronts itself with the city, certainly suffering due to its proximity, but maintaining its own conformity.” The municipal council has restored many of the ancient paths and trails included in the mountainous part of Bovezzo in the Parco Sovracomunale della Colline Bresciane (Supra-municipal Park of the Brescian Hills), such as the Ecomuseum of Castagneto da Frutto, installing adequate signs and picnic areas with amenities. Hence, the discovery of a large lung that contains Italy’s only public “marroneto” (chestnut grove) at the Casa della Natura, the stage of the famous Chestnut Festival of Valle del Garza.
