Sentiero dell’acqua di Irma

The Sentiero dell’Acqua di Irma (Irma Water Path) winds its way through woods and streams, highlighting historical testimonies and natural environments linked to water and its presence in the territory. The path begins at the town centre, amid historical fountains and a late 18th-century washhouse. It then moves away from the town to reach the ancient Fonte di San Carlo, where it crosses the Mella stream in Irma which carries water in all seasons. A rest area with amenities is set up at the spring. From here, going up the stream, among woods and typical flora, accompanied by information panels and artistic-educational installations, the path follows an ancient trail that has now been fixed up after being abandoned for a long time. Rich in biodiversity, it was once used for hunting, gathering wild herbs and cutting wood for the production of charcoal. The educational path ends upon reaching a clearing that houses the last interactive station, the “Scuola nel Bosco” (School in the Woods). However, you can continue walking along the hiking trail that allows you to get close to an imposing waterfall of almost 50 metres, the Cascata della Caldéra. The path then goes around the overhanging rock face and continues steeply until it reaches the forest road above, which allows you to head back to Irma easily.
