Ethnographic Museum in Collio

The “C. Giancola” Ethnographic Museum in Collio consists of a collection of about 1300 different types of objects that mostly belonged to Doctor Claudio Giancola, a native of Collio. Divided by type, visitors can admire objects from the peasant era such as wooden butter churns and moulds, wrought-iron sheep shearing scissors forged in one piece, valuable objects from wealthy and well-to-do families, the very particular and impressive chains (rack) in engraved wrought-iron, antique locks, keys from the 17th century, everyday objects and objects dedicated to the sacred. Various iron tools and small works of art were kept in the doctor’s Turin home for years, constituting a real private museum. After he died in 2014, the family, in agreement with representatives of the Collio section of the ANA Group of Brescia – Giovanni and Michele Cometti – and with the patronage of the Municipality of Collio, catalogued and set up the collection in a permanent exhibition located in the late 19th-century building, next to the tennis area. Over the years, the Ethnographic Museum of Collio has been enriched with additional items belonging to local families, such as the splendid 17th-century loom from the hamlet of Ivino. The museum, inaugurated in 2020, has been a stage along the “Via del Bosco” of the Ecomuseum of Valle Trompia since 2021 and is part of the Museum System of the Comunità Montana di Valle Trompia.
